The system-xfree86 package is currently without a maintainer, so it hasn't
been updated.  There may well be issues with using the 4.1 system-xfree86
package with 4.2.

You _can_ get 4.2 through fink.  It is still in the unstable section, but I
haven't noticed any usability issues.
