Hi there. I found that in Windowmaker, you can get the Applications menu by pressing the F12 key. Gets around the whole click on the desktop thing.

Yes. That's why I put my vote in for blackbox-rootless. It's lightweight, and it has provisions for starting new applications from a popup menu.
