First of all, thanks for the great information you are willing to provide
newbies such as myself.

I forgot about Tinkertool.

Here is my .xinitrc:
---
# Window Maker default X session startup script

PATH="$PATH:/sw/bin"

# If you login from xdm, uncomment this to make error messages appear
# in the console window.
#
# tail -f /Users/name/.xsession-errors > /dev/console &

exec sawfish
---

And here are the messages I get from Terminal:

---
[localhost:~] name% startx -- -quartz

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your hardware is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
        reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)

/sw/share/sawfish/1.0.1/lisp/sawfish/wm/ext/error-handler.jl
Quitting XDarwin...
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
xinit: connection to X server lost.

waiting for X server to shut down .......
---

I'm not sure what ".Xauthority" is or how it is being invoked...

And I'm not sure what this means:
Warning: /sw/share/sawfish/1.0.1/lisp/sawfish/wm/ext/error-handler.jl newer
than /sw/share/sawfish/1.0.1/lisp/sawfish/wm/ext/error-handler.jlc, using

Quitting XDarwin...

Can you help?

Thanks
