I have just started to use Fink and (of course) I am having a few problems.
My machine already has XDarwin 4.2 and fink 0.9.7 (distribution 0.3.2a) installed and I would like to get ddd working. Problem 1) My communication via the outside world is via firewall so I have followed the FAQ instructions and run "fink configure" to set inform it that my proxy server is "http://firewall:80". Although I can run "fink list" and "fink install" any attempt to get a list of packages with dselect gives errors of the type "Could not resolve 'firewall'" This is annoying but, by my understanding I should be able to just use "fink install". Problem 2) When I install lesstif and ddd and attempt to run I get errors of the type "Error: attempt to add non-widget child "DropSiteManager" to parent "ddd" which supports only widgets" Discussions on this board and fink-users seem to imply that I need to update to a newer version of lesstif (say lesstif-0.93.18-2 which is reported as part of the unstable tree on the website) but I can't seem to convince my copy of fink that it exists. (Having followed suggestions in the FAQs to copy files from "/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo" I found that I have no reference to anything latter than 0.93.0-2) "fink selfupdate" tells me I have the latest release. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
