Something like this: (your dates and sizes will be different)
   48 -rw-r--r--    1 root     admin       46500 May 12 22:54 
/sw/lib/libdl.0.dylib
    0 lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     admin          13 May 16 00:51 
/sw/lib/libdl.dylib -> libdl.0.dylib

Or were you missing something?

Doing what you suggest would result in a symlink loop, or I read 
the mail wrong...

Perhaps the original poster simply needs to do:
% sudo apt-get install dlcompat
