If you still have the *.deb file of the older version sitting around, 
you can install it with "dpkg -i".

If you want to rebuild it from source, you have to
1. get the older info and patch files which are no longer directly 
available from cvs. You can get them via cvs-web from the directory
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/fink/packages/dists/stable/main/finkinfo/editors/Attic/
and
2. cross your fingers, because there is no guarantee that the older 
package description still works. Many things may have changed in the 
meantime: download URLs, other packages on which xemacs depends etc.

To answer your earlier question: I don't get any of the errors you 
mention. This is with xemacs-21.5.4-2. I'd suspect a problem with your 
packages, not with xemacs itself. If you are on the net, you can update 
your packages from within xemacs with the Tools->Packages menu.
