I'm trying to do an update, but I keep getting these errors. I think I may
have screwed up fink some how yesterday when I was deleting old deb files.
I'm not really sure how that would affect updates.

Here's the error messages I'm getting:

The following 2 packages will be installed or updated:
gnumeric xfree86-rootless
mkdir -p /sw/src/gnumeric-1.0.9-1
tar -xzf /sw/src/gnumeric-1.0.9.tar.gz
Failed: directory /sw/src/gnumeric-1.0.9-1/gnumeric-1.0.9 doesn't exist,
check the package description
localhost:/sw/src$ sudo rm -r gnumeric-1.0.9-1/
localhost:/sw/src$ sudo fink update xfree86-rootless
Information about 1346 packages read in 2 seconds.
mkdir -p /sw/src/xfree86-rootless-4.2.0-3
tar -xzf /sw/src/X420src-1.tgz
Failed: directory /sw/src/xfree86-rootless-4.2.0-3/xc doesn't exist, check
the package description
localhost:/sw/src$

How can I fix this, or am I truly stuck and need to start over? It just
seems like tar isn't working. Like the files aren't being uncompressed? Is
that possible?

Please help me. I'm stuck. I was having problems with my gnomepanel, so I
deleted the ~./gnome and that fixed the panel, however now X-Chat isn't in
the menu anymore.

I thought it was safe to delete old .deb files? Am I mistaken? Do those
need to be kept?

Thanks for any help,
Sarah
