It looks OK, until the "quitting XDarwin" message. My guess would be that there's something wrong with your .xinitrc. If you didn't edit /usr/X11R6/xinit/xinitrc (i.e. the system's xinitrc), but just copied it to create your own .xinitrc, you should be able to delete yours and try startx again. If the system's xinitrc is still good, then X should work.
