Hi,
the updgrade to 10.2 was eventually almost succesful, not quite because
emacs21 still doesn't compile. This is a problem the maintainer is aware
of and he is looking at it.
I still get a couple of (hopefully minor) problems, see below.
After the build of emacs21 failed I updated all the other packages. It
wasn't really smooth, but worked.
I got a dependency conflict in updating gnome-mime-data:
gnome-mime-data conflicts with gnome-vfs-ssl (<< 1.0.5)
gnome-vfs-ssl (version 1.0.3-5) is installed.
This must be due some change in recent versions, I'm sure the two packages
were installed together with bundle-gnome and for gnome-vfs I chose the
ssl option.
Anyway I had to force-remove gnome-vfs-ssl and replace it with the non-ssl
version.
Then I went back to update the other packages. I had another problem with
gnome-games. It compiled and built, but could not be installed. The weird
thing is that the games appear to be updated when I launch gnome, and
moreover the package doesn't show up if I rerun fink update-all. Anyway I
don't care about the games, they also came with bundle-gnome...
There are however a couple of problems with X11. First of all I can not
launch it clicking on the XDarwin icon in the dock, which previously
worked. If I do it now the application hangs for a few seconds and quits.
This is the error from the console:
XFree86 Version 4.2.0.1 / X Window System

newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)

Quitting XDarwin...
So the problem is in starting gnome.
If I launch XDarwin from a terminal with startx -- -quartz it works.
Weird...
I get a warning though: before gnome's startup image appears there's a
message saying:
Could not look up internet address for coltrane.local. This will prevent
GNOME from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem
by adding coltrane.local. to /etc/hosts.
I don't understand, but tried and it doesn't work.
Apart from these issues everything seems to work, and faster!
Stefano
