I am trying to get Fink (using Fink Commander) running, but I encounter the same symptoms as Erik Tollefrud had (see [Fink-beginners] Apt-get problems, posted 15 Aug 2002). I have followed the installation instructions as minutely as I could, and I have had my _whole_ system reinstalled without getting around this problem. I am running Mac OS X 10.3, and have the latest stable Fink installation.

Anyway, the proposed solution, namely
fink scanpackages
doesn't help. Here is what happens:

======================
[dhcppc1:lib/apt/lists] tidde% fink scanpackages
sudo /sw/bin/fink scanpackages
Password:
Information about 755 packages read in 1 seconds.

Assuming you mean 10.2 and not 10.3, 755 packages means you have not done the Jaguar update listed on fink.sf.net. There are very few packages in the 10.2 stable tree and no binary 10.2 qualified packages (though some may work).
