2. You have some other shell startup script that runs after ~/.cshrc and destroys the MANPATH.I had that trouble once, because I followed the advices given in http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20020826003806202 :
The idea was to copy files from /usr/share/tcsh/examples, namely 'rc', 'login' and 'logout' as '.tcshrc', '.login' and '.logout' in my directory.
I added 'source /sw/bin/init.csh' in .tcshrc, but it seemed to be somehow 'forgotten'.
When I removed .login and .logout, it worked again, so there must be something there which destroys paths in general and MANPATH in particular...
Also, in the ref. I cited, it is interesting to read the follow-ups, since this problem is described...
