Hi,
besides general navigation and editing of files, I'm pretty new to the
unix side of the world. I understand the basics of the multi-user
based linux platform with each file or folder containing its permissions.
I develop websites and database driven sites (using a third party language
called webDNA). Until now, I've been serving pages on a Mac web server.
I now want to jump up a couple levels and learn Apache/MySQL/PHP but yet
retain some of my mac beginings by using OSX Jaguar.
At the present fink.sourceforge.net seems to be down but I thought I'd
ask some general questions.
1) Do I have to do anything other than install the apache package found
at fink.sourceforge.net?
(same q; for PHP and MySQL)
2) I am noticing the use of some terms that I'm getting confused.
Whats the difference between
"compiling" and "building"? ...packing? Is fink a "compiler" or
"builder"?
3) I am pretty good with basic database scripting theories and pretty
good with html. Based off
of this info, is the Apache/MySQL/PHP challenge too much or will I "get
it" over time? ;-)
thanks!
Donovan
