Dear Peter,

I have fink in /sw/ and it works fine. Try this. It appears that fink often defaults to /sw for source (/sw/src/), assorted binaries (/sw/bin/), etc. Place your fink directory in /sw/ to avoid these problems. Just set your path to take advantage of this. I'm learning to play with fink too. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Aaron Rusz

Hello,
I=B9ve tried twice now to install XFree86 using =B3fink install
XFree86=B2 and =B3fink reinstall XFree86=B2 both times it errors out with
the following lines:

rm -rf /applications/fink/src/root-xfree86-rootless-4.2.1.1-1
mkdir -p=20
/applications/fink/src/root-xfree86-rootless-4.2.1.1-1/applications/fink
mkdir -p /applications/fink/src/root-xfree86-rootless-4.2.1.1-1/DEBIAN
install -d -m 755 /applications/fink/src/root-xfree86-rootless-4.2.1.1-1
mv /applications/fink/src/root-xfree86-base-4.2.1.1-1/Applications
/applications/fink/src/root-xfree86-rootless-4.2.1.1-1/
mv: rename /applications/fink/src/root-xfree86-base-4.2.1.1-1/Applications
to /applications/fink/src/root-xfree86-rootless-4.2.1.1-1//Applications:
Directory not empty
### execution of mv failed, exit code 1
Failed: installing xfree86-rootless-4.2.1.1-1 failed

I=B9m trying to understand what is going on right here. I=B9ll admit I
haven=B9t use Linux or FreeBDS in quite awhile.
It looks like it removes directory xfree86 rootless, then goes back and
remakes the same directory with subfolder application/fink and /DEBIAN.
The= n
it goes to install xfree86-rootless. Then it goes to move
xfree86-base/applications to xfree86-rootless. Then the main error occurs
while it tries to move and rename xfree86-base/applications to
xfree86-rootless. /Applications folder isn=B9t empty, no kidding!?
Ok, was I dumb to install Fink into /Applications/fink (The applications
folder in Mac OS X and subfolder named fink) instead of /sw? Is there a
way to just remove XFree86 and try to see if a binary is available?
Anyway to restart the install without having to install everything again
(This takes like 3 hours on my computer)?
Any help would be great.
Thanks!
