Recently, I had a problem trying to update my Fink installation. It
seemed to come down to a conflict between tetex-base and lilypond:
First, I did "fink selfupdate" and upgraded to version 0.5.0a.cvs
(MacOS 10.2.2, eMac.) This gave no problem. I then did "fink
update-all". Somewhere, in updating Python (and 50+ additional
packages) there was an error message, I believe with tetex-base. I
tried "fink reinstall tetex-base" then "fink reinstall tetex-base
1.0-13". Here's what resulted:
[<computer>:~] root# fink reinstall tetex-base-1.0-13
>Information about 1846 packages read in 14 seconds.
>

Installation of tetex-base nevertheless proceeded, with Metafont,
initex, etex (initex in extended mode), latex2e, peftex, pdfelatex,
omega, elatex, lambda(?), and finally got:

Although the computer did a lot of installation after the initial error
message, I couldn't find any error messages apart from what I've
listed. So I removed lilypond, after which I successfully reinstalled
tetex-base and redid update-all.
Finally, I reinstalled lilypond. There were a couple of warnings which
I'm not sure should have been there:
sudo fink reinstall lilypond
.
.
.
(much later:)
>dpkg -i
/fink.new2/fink/dists/unstable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/text/
lilypond_1.6.6-1_darwin-powerpc.deb

>dpkg: warning - unable to delete old file

Bottom line: workaround-able, but I suspect these problems shouldn't
have been there. Any ideas?
