Yes, for a while people were able to get this by running the installer twice. This is why there is now a warning on the fink home page not to do this..... and now I have only a blue screen desktop:
Classical symptoms. You need to fix some things. I hope I remember what it is. You'll see whether it works :-)I have no more icons, and only the mouse (and fnkey controls) respond.After fink installation, all icons disappear, and only HD icon is visible, but double clicking nothing opens. If I reboot, appears (one half second) the login window, but it disappear quickly and... then I have only the blue screeen.
First: The problem comes from the fact that the directory "/", the root directory of everything, now has wrong privileges and probably a wrong owner. Maybe some subdirectories, too.
So you'll need to fix these privileges. Either boot into single user mode, if you know how to do this, then follow the instructions that appear on the screen, and say
chmod 1775 /
chown root.admin /
This should be sufficient to get you back to a booting system.
Or, if you don't know how to do this, boot from an OSX CD, go into the Disk Utilities program and choose "Repair Privileges". This should work, too.
Then, when you are back in OSX, you can have a look at the owner of / and its subdirectories ("ls -l /") and change them back to root.admin if necessary.
And: Erase "/Library/Receipts/Fink 0.4.1 Installer.pkg" and its subdirectories so that the same thing won't happen to you again.
