Greetings I'm trying to get some open source audio software running on my Mac (2002 G4 933, OS X 10.2.3, fink 0.5.0a.cvs, Dec 2002 Developer Tools).
I have successfully installed the xmms software using fink. It runs well under the Apple x11 package. I have also successfully downloaded, compiled, and installed the "non-fink" xmms-shn-2.2.7 xmms plug-in software from <http://www.etree.org/shnutils/xmms-shn/> This software enables me to play .shn sound files directly in xmms without having to first decompress them to aiff or wav. Works great. Now I'm trying to get the sndstretch xmms plug-in software, which is at <http://www.geocities.com/harpin_floh/sndstretch_page.html> to compile. But it won't. It fails when looking for sys/soundcard.h: -----BEGIN INCLUDED MATERIAL----- [219cpe038:~/sndstretch_xmms] fbparker% make clean rm -f *~ ; rm -f *.o ; rm -f *.so *.lo [219cpe038:~/sndstretch_xmms] fbparker% make gcc -Wall -O6 `xmms-config --cflags` -O2 -fPIC -c sndstretch_xmms_eff.c `gtk-config --cflags` -o sndstretch_xmms_eff.lo sndstretch_xmms.c:30: header file 'sys/soundcard.h' not found sndstretch_xmms.c:488: undefined type, found `audio_buf_info' cpp-precomp: warning: errors during smart preprocessing, retrying in basic mode make: *** [sndstretch_xmms_eff.lo] Error 1 [219cpe038:~/sndstretch_xmms] fbparker% -----END INCLUDED MATERIAL----- A google search found this: <http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/7938/2002/3/0/8226258/> This article, from March 2002, basically says that I can't compile anything on my Mac that uses soundcard.h. Is this still the case? There is mention of "Darwin Free Audio", and there is this page at sourceforge: <http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnu-darwin/> which has a link to a "Darwin Free Audio" task: <http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?group_project_id=10903&group_id=15543&func=browse> But apparently nothing is going on in the world of "Darwin Free Audio". Shame :( This is all I've found that addresses this issue. Is this capability likely to ever be added to the world of open source Mac software? Is there a way to get around this problem, short of running Linux on a PC? ;) -Bo Parker [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Meet Singles http://corp.mail.com/lavalife ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.NET email is sponsored by: Thawte.com - A 128-bit supercerts will allow you to extend the highest allowed 128 bit encryption to all your clients even if they use browsers that are limited to 40 bit encryption.
