If you used Fink Commander, then nothing odd should have happened to your installation, based on an attempt to install xfree86-(base/rootless)
For clarification: Do you have the system-xfree86 package (placeholder) installed? If you don't, then you should do so, since it will let fink know that you have Apple X11. It also provides libgl, which is what your installation is complaining about. -- Alexander K.
