I would go about it the other way. Which programs do you want to run?
Some requiring gnome, some kde, some of both? I don't know if there are
binaries for kde, but compiling it (500 mhz g3) took just short of
forever and then running it seemed slower than comparable gnome apps,
so right now I'm using gnome (there aren't any functionalities specific
to kde that make me interested in installing it). As far as ease of
installing, other than the time it took to compile, both were equally
(very) easy, thanks to fink. If all you want are office apps, I'd
suggest openoffice and Apple's X11.
