Alexander (and the rest),

Thanx for pointing me in the right direction. changing the fink.conf line "ProxyPassiveFTP:" to "false" seems to do the trick. Which begs the question why is it set that way by default? I did a standard installation and accepted all the defaults, very strange.

But thanx to all who answered.

Cheers

Steve

Just as a shot in the dark, but do you have ProxyPassiveFTP: set to true
in /sw/etc/fink.conf ? I just fetched audiofile from the exact same URL
that you had at the top of your output.

Hi,

either I am a complete idiot (possible) or after reinstalling fink and
xfeee86 (rootless) and Apple's X11, film gimp still refuses to install:

curl -f -L -s -S -O
ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/audiofile/0.2/audiofile-
0.2.3.tar.gz
curl: (16) Can't connect to ftp server
### execution of curl failed, exit code 16
Downloading the file "audiofile-0.2.3.tar.gz" failed.

(1) Give up
(2) Retry the same mirror
(3) Retry another mirror from your continent
(4) Retry another mirror
and every mirror fails, but if I connect to the server manually with
ftp (command line or NetFinder) it has no problem. If I try the
(echoed) command manually from the command line I get the same error:

curl: (16) Can't connect to ftp server
I am at a bit of a loss....
