I may have narrowed my problem be reestablishing the unstable tree. After that many of the packages that I attempted to reinstall could be installed. However, I'm still having trouble with libpng-shlibs because zlib is a dependency. zlib is not in my package list. I've reprinted the log regarding libpng-shlibs below. Perhaps a more experienced eye sees something obvious here.

Subject: [Fink-beginners] Lost stable fink

I have been using fink for a year or more with great success, but now
it will neither install nor uninstall packages through dselect or the
fink command. In all cases dependencies are missing. I think this
happened when I tried to upgrade to 10.2 and downgrade from unstable to
stable. Is there some way that I can wipe away all of the existing
config information and begin again. And when is the graphics in dselect
going to be fixed?
