[Fink-beginners] Bailing because an error occurred trying to find XFree86 installation's version

I'm new to Mac OS X and Fink.  I'm trying to get up and running with 
GIMP.  I have installed Apple's X11 (plus SDK), and am trying to 
install Fink's system-xfree86.  However, I get the following error, and 
I have no idea how to proceed.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

.../system-xfree86_4.2-6_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...

- found /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm
- found /usr/X11R6/bin/xrdb
- found /usr/X11R6/bin/rman
- found /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.dylib

- found /usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xlib.h
An error occurred trying to find your XFree86 installation's
version.  This really shouldn't happen, so I'm bailing.  :(
