[Fink-beginners] Fast X11 environment besides Apples X11 User

I am trying to use KDE's  Kate programmers editor but there is a bug 
with X11 (even in 0.3) where the + and * keys don't work correctly (try 
to program Java without the + key).
What is the next best window manager that will work on my mac and can 
run Kate at close to the speed of Apples X11 User.
