Let me interject for some clarification:

X11.app and XDarwin.app are NOT window managers--they contain the
display server.

The window manager is a separate program. In the default Apple X11
case, your window manager is called quartz-wm. You can call a variety
of window managers if you use either X11.app or XDarwin.app

That being said, the problem with Apple X11 and KDE are in X11.app, not
with quartz-wm: I checked this by running a different window manager.
So what you need is a different display server.

You'll want a standard XFree86 setup--the fink xfree86-base and
-rootless packages will give you what you need. In this case the
stability is very good, but it's slower than using X11.app .

As to a window manager, you do have the option to run a full KDE
session, and use kwin, which is already installed on your system, or any
of the others that fink provides. Or you could install OroborOSX
(http://oroborosx.sf.net/), which has an Aqua interface like X11.app .
It has more features than X11.app, but is slower.
