I've been using gnome-terminal (Gnome 2, freeX86 4.3, all up-to-date) with no problem. After installing nmap, I found that gnome-terminal had "disconnected" from the keyboard except for the numerical keypad. Letter keys do not respond. Other Gnome apps (AbiWord, Gnumeric, and the built-in text editor) responds normally.

I do not know if the installation of nmap is related; I attempted to run nmap from the the Gnome "run" menu. Since I didn't include arguments, it failed. I opened gnome-terminal and was unable to type text to it. The menu options for gnome-terminal responded to mouse actions.

The result of rebuilding gnome-terminal was no change in its behavior.

I have since changed to xterm, which opens and responds to the keyboard. I'd rather use gnome-terminal because it is easily customized.

I tried the list archives but they again appear to be broken. ("either you misspelled or if it's new, wait a few hours" or something similar)

What should I look for? Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Stan
