Hi all,

I've never dealt with UNIX, and I've just used Darwin a couple of times. In
the hunt for a good newsreader for OSX, I've downloaded and installed Fink.
I have also installed X11 and X11SDK, and used the Finkcommand to get Pan
with all files and installed.

But now I'm at roads end. I have read the documentations, FAQs and archives
at the Fink website, but the more I read, the more confused I get. It seems
as for every new file I install, I need to get another... :-(

Can someone please be so kind and talk me through the installation?

TIA
Dan

The problem is a standard one: a package depends on other packages, which in turn depend on other packages....This, though confusing at first is normal.

However, it's a bit difficult to walk you through it, because people who have established systems (such as myself) won't necessarily see the same messages that you do, because they probably have some of the dependencies already on their system.

Since you're new, I suggest using the binary distribution. For this, ;you just click on the package name in Fink Commander, and use Binary->Install from the menu.

Try installing the "system-xfree86" package first--you'll need it.

Then try installing pan by binary, and post back on the list as questions arise or problems come up.
