Dear all,
I'm about to order my first cluster.
So far, I 'just' had to manage a bunch of G4s, and I already found it hard to keep all Fink packages version similar - and consistent with the soft I built.
I will (soon?) have to cope with 15 G5s.
I suspect I will be able to create clones of a master install and replicate that on all the machines, but is mostly for the first install.
If, say one month later, I want to upgrade just one package, will I have to proceed in the same way, or is there a 'smart' way to upgrade one package on 15 machines at a time?
You should be able to build the package on a master system, run 'fink scanpackages', and then export your /sw/fink directory with apache and point the other systems at it to apt-get from it.
You could even make a "cluster.info" file in your local tree that Depends: on everything you want installed/upgraded on every system, build it, and then do a scanpackages and do "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install cluster" on the other systems.
