Imagine, if you will, a scenario not too far from any
of us...

Your mother in law calls. (Hereafter, MIL) She just
bought a G5 and had your cousin set it up for her.
And theyve discovered iMovie. Without saying another
word, you finally realize where you left that digicam
last Christmas. No, you wont tell your wife because
you dont want to be punished twice for the same
crime. But as dumb luck would have it, you get
spanked again anyway.

Hows that, you say? The MIL has been filming Fifi
chowing down in the nitty-gritty kitty litter box
again. You remember Fifi, dont you? Thats the
little smelly French thing your lovely wife grew up
with. And wouldnt the Mrs. just love to see Fifi
being naughty? Of course she would! So the old one
decides to e-mail your family the 50 meg movie using
her cable modem.

No biggie, right? Well, it would be no biggie if you
had DSL or a cable modem, but NO, you have a 56k modem
and the nearest junction box is FIVE MILES AWAY making
your fastest download speed a whopping 33.6k.

You try to convince the MIL and your wife to have the
movie burned to a CD and mailed to your home. Sanity
would then prevail, right?

Wrong. Wifey wants the movie, and she wants it NOW.

You know your ISP blocks e-mails with attachments over
5 meg. You also know that the MIL has a really cheesy
personal web site on mac.com. So you tell the MIL to
post accordingly and youll get busy with that
download.

You frantically search the web for a downloader
program and your heart stops. There is a really cool
downloader on Sourceforge called Downloader for X
(dforx). You look for the OS X port and (gasp!) there
is none. Considering all the other options, you
finally resign yourself to the knowledge that youll
be sleeping on the couch again tonight.

But this scenario doesnt have to be! Please port
dforx and spare men around the world from senseless
grief!
