Hi...I am a *complete* novice in computer installation processes. The PARI software was recommended to me by some people in the sci.math newsgroup. I had asked for help because I needed a free or inexpensive calculator software that would calculate all the basic arithmetic functions, plus things like lnN, e^N, roots, basic trigonometry functions. And I needed accuracy out to at least 50 decimal places (or more, depending on the problem). If this software had 2-d and 3-d graphing capacity, that would be very nice, but secondary for my present research.
Dr. Belabas of Universit Paris-Sud which developed it said that PARI be what I'm looking for and it would be compatible with my iMac OS-X (Jaguar) computer?
My problem is that the PARI GP seems to require very sophisti- cated installation by a 'programmer' after it's downloaded, along with the FINK software...the examples of instructions/problems/ and solutions suggested at the FINK website appeared overwhel- ming to me.
So my question: Is PARI GP+FINK installation (and even usage) way over my layman's head and really more suitable for a person trained in programming and computer language? Or should I just go ahead and try to download the whole PARI GP package and hope for the best??
Thanks very much, Gene Partlow
