two questions:

1.)
I upgraded two machines from 10.2.8 to 10.3. One did (after some repeated executions of 'fink selfupdate') recognize the tansition and recompiled and reinstalled the core packages. the other machine was, after the selfupdate, still believing that 'Distribution 10.2' (in /sw/etc/fink.conf) is correct.
I found the solution, namely to execute

/sw/lib/fink/postinstall.pl

in the mailing list. but just for curiosity (and to avoid problems in the future): is there an easy to understand reason for this behaviour? can it be corrected in an existing 10.2.8 installation to avoid problems of this kind during upgrade?

2.) (I'm afraid that this is somewhere in the archive but I did not get a clear picture there...)
I installed apple's x11SDK (moving aside the old X11R6 tree which was installed via fink some 4-8 weeks ago) and x11 dependent programs like gnuplot, gv, R do still run perfectly.

I did not touch the x11 settings in 'dselect' and 'fink' up to now , but I am not sure if this is ok.
now one machine according to dselect thinks x11-syst xfree86-base 4.2.1.1-3 and x11-syst xfree86-root 4.2.1.1-3 are still installed, the other thinks x11 is'nt installed at all.

on the other hand, 'fink-virtual-pkgs' seems not to know anything about xfree86 and x11 on both machines

what is the correct procedure? should I

- move aside the apple x11 tree temporarily
- move back the xfree86 tree to X11R6
- deinstall x11 with dselect (at least on the machine which knows about it)
- move back the apple-x11 tree to the canonical location?

what is the correct procedure to inform fink/deselect that there now is a working apple-x11 installation? does someone know a reason for the observed differing behaviour on both machines (which are nearly identically installed as far as I know)?

I'm afraid the present configuration is not consistent...
any help (if one knows the correct entry in the FAQ, for instance...) appreciated.
