I've been trying to get programs such as gimp or xmms running on my 10.3.2
system for a few weeks now with no luck. when X11 is running I get an error
saying; "Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:" when I type in "gimp" to the
terminal. I also get the following when I type in startx;
Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
         and start again.

    OsVendorFatalError
    AbortDDX
Quitting XDarwin...
Is this the same problem another user was having where they were told to
delete the first line in the startx file?

Also, I'm on dial-up and would love to get the kdebase3 package, but when I
try to it says I would need to download another 60+ packages. Is there any
way to determine the full file size of this download? Is it possible to
download it at work and bring it home to use? Is there a way to know when
fink is done with my internet connection so that I wouldn't need to worry
about it getting cut off from my modem?
Thanks for any help anybody can offer. I'm a beginner in the extreme sense
of the word...
