I just installed fink from the package (Fink-0.6.2-Installer.dmg) on Mac OS 10.2.6 with XFree86 installed.
When I run dselect (from administrator account with sudo), it starts OK, but after I select a package and hit enter, the terminal goes into a reverse video mode with unreadable vt100 graphics characters. Like what happens when a binary file is read with more, but without the random characters.
At this point hitting a return sometimes restores normal characters, but it goes back into garbled mode when going back to the main menu, going into help, and many other times as well. This behavior makes it impossible read the output, and makes it almost impossible to use dselect.
I tried deleting the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist on the off chance something was hosed in the preferences settings. No luck.
I then tried using an xterm window instead of the terminal.app and got the same behavior with xterm. So it is not a problem with the terminal app.
Anyway despite this problem, I managed to install a couple of packages
(mostly blind, hoping defaults work, not a good idea, i suppose), but
the packages did install properly. So I suppose this is not a bug with
fink per se, but rather a problem with dselect. Has anyone else had this
problem, or does anyone have any suggestions?
