"./bomcheck BaseSystem" --> /Library/Receipts/BaseSystem.pkg: No such package
OK, here it is: I thought at one point that the problem might be that something in the Developer and/or X11SDK packages was missing, and that perhaps the receipts for these packages were preventing proper reinstallation. However, I seem to have removed a good deal more than that: having reinstalled the Developer stuff, I get from "ls /Library/Receipts":
BSDSDK.pkg DevExamples.pkg DeveloperTools.pkg DevDocumentation.pkg DevSDK.pkg X11SDK.pkg
Do I need to reinstall the entire 10.3 system?
Perhaps not. I am not sure, however, if SoftwareUpdate uses the receipts for determining which updates you need. This might cause you problems.
