After lots of problems getting Gnome-bundle 2.4 to build from source, I finally managed to get it built. But now that it builds, it hardly runs. When I run X11 in full-screen mode, xterm's output says that Gnome "can't open default font config file", and yes, the font handling is broken--everything renders in Courier instead of Helvetica. Then I get various message windows that look like "failed to active OFAIID:Gnome_MixerApplet"" and then a prompt to delete the applet. The first time this happened I deleted the applet, which then causes Gnome to crash. Now it just freezes.

I'm bummed. I really wanted to have my machine look like the pretty screen shots I see on Keith Conger's blog. :-( Am I doing something wrong? (Or is there a Fink-Gnome-beginner's list that I should send this to instead?)
