Dunno (I haven't used it myself in a long time). Maybe more comfortable interface? Multiple mouse buttons make a lot of 3D graphics easier. It isn't the only package that fink does this way (imagemagick, mozilla, tcltk), and fink has in general headed towards x11 given the choice.
