Thank for this post :

I also get the "help file not found error", but there is a caveat to note with this solution. I've installed celestia, and it puts its help files into /sw/share/doc/HTML/en, so if you already have anything installed into /sw/share/doc/HTML/en, there will probably be a conflict.Yes, absolutely... I hadn't anything inside HTML and I didn't think to this problem at the moment. So, after reading your post and, to avoid any problems I removed the "en" symlink, created an "en" folder and "ln -s /sw/share/doc/kde/en/* ." inside.
The only (for english language at least) problem remaining, is that if
any program
create another folder inside kde/en, I'll have to symlink it to HTML/en.
btw, I've seen other people speaking about this (I don't remember where, maybe a search in the fink list archive ?) and saying that the problem seems (?) that help center should not search the "HTML/en" folder (which is for help "ABOUT HTML in english") but the kde/en folder.
Another solution may be to symlink the kde/en folder to ~/.kde/share/doc/HTML/en/ as help center looks inside the home folder too (Seen this in the kde.log).

Hello, I've tried to,install several package such as grace or xfig using Fink but an error occured each time telling me:
You have an existing X11 installation in /usr/X11R6 and/or /etc/X11. This package refuses to overwrite these. Remove them, then tell Fink to install xfree86 again. (The package won't be recompiled.) If you want to keep your X11 installation, install system-xfree86 resp. system-xtools instead to make this known to Fink's package system.
The problem is that fink does not find the packages system-xfree86 and system-xtools when I type "fink install ...". those packages do not appear also when I type "fink list".
Is there an alternative or bigger list with addiationnal packages ?
thanks Matt

You don't want to install system-xtools, and system-xfree86 is now a virtual package. I'll assume you're running Panther and have Apple's X11 installed, since you didn't say otherwise:

I took a look at this myself, since I have the same problem. There's a
":" on line 2106 of configure:
...
if `perl -e "require XML::Parser" 2>/dev/null`; then
:
else
{ { echo "$as_me:$LINENO: error: XML::Parser perl module is required
for int$
echo "$as_me: error: XML::Parser perl module is required for intltool"&2;}{ (exit 1); exit 1; }; } fi ...
Changing this to an echo resulted in successful completion of ./configure .
if `perl -e "require XML::Parser" 2>/dev/null`; then
echo foo
else
{ { echo "$as_me:$LINENO: error: XML::Parser perl module is required

echo "$as_me: error: XML::Parser perl module is required for intltool"&2;}{ (exit 1); exit 1; }; } fi ...

The problem is most likely that you're trying to install something from source, but you don't have the X11 SDK so it doesn't think your Apple X11 install is enough.

Alex-
Unfortunately, my lack of knowledge impedes progress. While I can manually edit the configure file, I don't know how to use it. "fink install inkscape" wipes out the changes.

O.K., I went to the unix books and, after extracting and modifying the original configure file, retarred using tar -cvzf. However, I got the same resultchecking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for gawk... gawk checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking for intltool >= 0.22... 0.30 found checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl configure: error: XML::Parser perl module is required for intltool ### execution of /var/tmp/tmp.1.gMHteF failed, exit code 1 Failed: compiling inkscape-0.37-11 failed
I checked the configure file again (/sw/src/inkscape-0.37-11/inkscape-0.37/configure) just to make sure it hadn't changed, and the "echo foo" was in place as Alex described.
At least I know a little more than before!
Thanks.,

Hey hey,
It's interesting that you guys are discussing this.... I was just having this problem with unzip550.tar.gz a few minutes as well. I figured it was something wrong with my new OS X install, as other stuff is going screwy too (Finder beachballing for every trivial task). Here's the result of the prebinding command on my system (fresh 10.3.2 install on a QuickSilver):
[EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~]$ sudo /sw/var/lib/fink/prebound/update-package-prebinding.pl -f Password: sudo: seg_addr_table: command not found [EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~]$
Regardless of the error, my selfupdate-rsync worked the next time. Thanks. :)
