OK Some helpful folks have tried to help with this. I am trying to install GnuCash. Everything, xDarwin, Java dev tools, everything that everyone ahs said has been done.
Nothing fixes the issue. I am just darn frustrated. To date, not one thing has successfully installed through Fink Commander. I think the whole thing is myth, but some folks purport to have actually installed things with it.

Now then... I am pretty dang frustrated. Hate to say it, but truth is truth.
I have read the FAQ's. I have gotten tons of helpful advice. I just want someone to admit that GnuCash just does not work on Mac, then i will quietly go away and go on and buy someting from the store. If it does work, will someone PLEASE HELP?

Thanks,. Now then. I run the binary install from the coomander..

Here is the errors in the terminal screen... Let me know your thoughts.. thanks.

And no, I dont have a clue as to how to write a script to load a makefile. It seems like every package is absolutely different from the next. I can config routers and sell real estate. I am not a developer and dont have a clue as to the proper syntax to eek out a workable makefile to compile the source on my Mac OsX 10.3
Embarrasing, maybe, but again, the truth is the truth.

Any help is appreaciated. And if you live in Atlanta there is beer and pizza if you can solve this.

Could it be that I need to install emacs within fink

Yes.

Subject: [Fink-beginners] Problems getting Fink installed and started

Hello beginners-list,

I'm running Mac OS X 10.3 on a PowerMac G4 450 MHz. My attempts to
install fink failed until now and I don't know why!

I made the installation with the User's Guide, which can be found under
this link

http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/users-guide/index.php

1. I did install the Mac OS X Xcode Tools from the Install-Disk, which
came with the Apple OS X 10.3

2. I did install the Mac OS X Installer Package
"Fink-0.6.2-Installer.dmg" which I downloaded before.

3. I set the path which is described in the User's Guide Point 2.3

4. I installed Fink Commander.

5. When I startet Fink Commander I went online and all the available
software was displayed in the Fink Commander window.

But no binary Distributions have been displayed. Why that?

6. In spite of that I downloaded software, apparently source-packages.
My aim was to install the kde software. So about 114 packages had to be
installed and it took hours to download it.

But at the end, it failed and stopped and I don't know why!

So at the moment I am a little bit frustrated! Is there anybody, who can
help me may be step by step from the beginning?! It would be very
helpful...

Martin

Four things to do: Look at the failure message on your screen and then

1. Go to the Fink FAQ at http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/index.php and
look whether the same failure is described there.

2. Search through the mailing list archives and look whether the same
failure has come up before.

3. Search for parts of the failure message in Google.

4. If you don't come up with the solution through 1-3 above, copy the
relevant parts of the failure message to the list so someone can try to
understand what went wrong.

Subject: [Fink-beginners] Re: Xfree86 trouble

Hello all,

I wondered if anybody knew what I can do about the following error that
seems to crop up when I try installing both emacs21 and Imagemagick.
It seems that I have previously installed the system-xfree86 (v 4.2-13)
and that when fink tries to install xfree86 (v 4.3.99.16-2?) it stops
with a conflict error (as listed below). well, at least that's what I
understand from the error messages! Do I need to remove the
system-xfree86 (v 4.2-13) and then re-install the new version? If I do
this, will I brake any of the previously installed packages? I
currently use the X11 windowing system from Apple to run all my unix
programs that need X windows to display.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Simon.

P.S.

The following is what I get when I run 'fink install emacs21'

Have you run in FinkCommander Binary -> Update Descriptions? If yes proceed as Martin Costabel suggested.
