I am suffering with installing TeX on PANTHER 10.3. I had installed tetex, tetex-base, tetex-shlib, latex2html, xdvi through the Fink Commander (using the Sources button).
Everyhting was fine except that xdvi would not work, complaining that fonts were missing and was unable to reinstall them (permission problem --- I even tried sudo xdvi filename, but still got the permission problem).
So, I decided to uninstall (with Fink Commander) these packages using the uninstall button.
Then, not only did the "current" status disappear from the Fink Commander line for the package, but all the tetex packages disappeared!
I tried the update button (in rsync mode), but nothing changed.
I tried running directly in an X11 window
sudo fink install tetex
but I would get the message
195 packages read in 0 seconds. Failed: no package found for specification 'tetex'!
I am also surprised that so few packages were read...
So, I tried
sudo fink selfupdate-cvs
and a few minutes it finished with
Information about 195 packages read in 2 seconds.
Still no sign of tetex!!! Neither through fink nor through FinkCommander, which I had quit and restarted...
Any ideas on what I should do to 1) recover TeX and 2) get xdvi to work properly with its fonts?
