I'm having the same problem with selfupdate-cvs; when I tried installing
fink's version of cvs and then running selfupdate, I got this error message:
cvs [login aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)
### execution of /usr/bin/su failed, exit code 1
Failed: Logging into the CVS server for anonymous read-only access failed.
I am also using 10.3.3 and the latest version of fink (but I haven't yet
installed the 4-05 Security Update).

I kind of think this is one of the usual "cvs busy" messages, rather than a problem with the cvs package itself.
