It must be something else:  that error (and the file to fix it) are
specific to 10.3.x.
Can you post the error that you get?
I'll also say that I did succeed installing the package "tree". And the
offending package is "system-xfree86", which as I understand it, is 
needed
to make fink work with Xfree86, which I previously did install from its
original website.
