[as root] I've run fink:
remove perl560 perl560-core install perl580 (perl580-core was already installed) scanpackages apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade
and things are rolling along (222 packages to upgrade)
when that's done i'll get back around to the fink selfupdate and update-all
I'll let y'all know if it gets bumpy again.
Looking good...,
Thanks again Dan,
Robert

Sounds like you're compiling a package that expects perl 5.8.0 or higher (which knows those MakeMaker parameters and comes with Test::More but yout /sw/bin/perl appears to be 5.6.0. You say you have perl580-core installed, so try installing perl580 also (which updates /sw/bin/perl to 5.8.0). Alternatively, install the test-simple-pm package to get Test::More for perl 5.6.0; you'll still get the MakeMaker warnings, but I think they are harmless.
