This is a relatively vanilla install of:
MacOS 10.3.4,
X11
XCode 1.2,
X11SDK
Fink 0.7
FinkCommannder

Install of KDE 3.1.4-21 (and dependencies) binaries.

.xinitrc fragment:
# twm &
# fvwm2 &
# wmaker &
#/usr/X11R6/bin/quartz-wm &
# quartz-wm --only-proxy &
source /sw/bin/init.sh
setenv KDEWM=kwin
/sw/bin/startkde >/tmp/kde.olg 2>&1
# xclock -geometry 50x50-8+1 &
# xterm -geometry 80x50+494+51 &
# xterm -geometry 80x20+494-0 &
# exec xterm -geometry 80x56+0+0 -name login

Have tried this with and without evoking quartz-wm --only-proxy (no difference that I can see).

KDE starts, there is a Settings Dialog that interacts with the mouse just fine. Finish set up and the mouse no longer can click on a window, toolbar button, anywhere in the toolbar. However- icons that are on the MacOS Desktop do showup and respond to the mouse. I cannot move them, but I can open them. In fact, icons/files on the desktop respond even if there is and over-lying window (it is as if the window is transparent).
There is other strange behaviour with a secondary menu bar at the top, which *does* respond to the mouse. This menubar is present is X11 is set to 'rootless'. This menubar goes away in full screen mode.

Sao's page mentions disabling desktop Icons in the Settings dialog- but I cannot get to such a thing as the mouse in not functioning- perhaps I can invoke this another way.

Sound familiar to anyone?

Cheers,
Moon
