Hi all,

I am quite a new user to fink and up untill yesterday at 16.50 BST all was
well.

I attepmted to install the xdrawchem package from the ustable branch...
the unstabele/main branch was enabled in my /sw/etc/fink.conf...

the installation failed.....

thats not the problem however....

since I tried to install the package, various commands such as ls, chmod
and others result in segmenatation faults...

when I use the '/usr/bin' version form Darwin they are fine, but the /sw/
bin' versions result in the sgmentation faults. By looking at the /sw/bin/
directory I see that all these commands were modified when I tried to
install xdrawchem.

As it stands when I launch a new shell terminal I get the
'Welcome to Darwin' message followed by
Segmantation fault

if I remove the
source /sw/bin/init.csh
line from my .cshrc file (I still use C shell) I no longer get the
segmentation faults.

A related issue is that when I get the segmenatation faults, anything in my
/tmp/ directory gets wiped out and replaced by
501/ and a file called mcx_compositor.

so my questions are ...

1) what the devil caused all the commands in the /sw/bin directory to gte
changed

2) what can I do about it

3) why does changing things in my /sw directory result in my /tmp directory
being modified

thanks in advance
