Seeing the libpangoft2, I tried removing freetype and freetype hinting, but they're not installed. Freetype is installed in /usr/local, but I've moved /usr/local/ to /usr/local.moved/ and it makes no difference.
Frequently that's a good bet, but apparently not here.
I am using the unstable tree. Epiphany compiled at home (where I have a 56k modem only and so I use the stable tree) under the stable tree. However, at home where it did compile, epiphany won't work (Epiphany can't be used now. Mozilla initialization failed. Check your MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME environmental variable. WARNING **: Could not get the chrome registry.).
