As far as I can tell, Fink should work for you, then--that's what your
.profile should look like.

I got the following after running "ls -a ~"
. .profile Movies
.. Data Music
.CFUserTextEncoding Desktop
Pictures
.DS_Store Documents Public
.Trash Download Sites
.bash_history Faxes X40
.lpoptions Library
rsyncxlkt.command
and for running "cat ~/.profile"
. /sw/bin/init.sh
