To tell you the truth I don't, fink is doing all by itself asking me
which package I'd like to install when it's not able to take a decision.

After reading your email I run once more "fink selfudate" via rsync and
after that "fink update-all".

I had an error message involvind db42-ssl-shlibs. I removed it and than
started again. The questions about dependences went further than before
but end with an error messagge about freetype package again.

I changed the update method from rsync to cvs. Started over again the
update-all process after selfupdate completion. Error again with
freetype package.

I decided to try and install freetype-hinting by itself. After that I
run fink update-all. No more errors. Right now fink is compiling...
I will let you know the results.
