Hello,
I am trying to get the file /usr/lib/gcc/darwin/3.1/crtbegin.o which I
*think* should be installed when I install gcc 3.1.

I have just installed (hopefully correctly) Xcode tools 1.2 from the
apple developer website. (Before I was using Xcode tools 1.1 which
came in the Install folder on my Powerbook G4 that runs Panther.)

When I double click on the gcc3.1.pkg it goes through the installation process,
but it says 0 bytes are required. But I know it's doing *something*, because
I moved my /usr/lib/gcc/darwin/3.1 folder to /3.1_old, and the installation
process created a new /3.1 folder. Yet the new folder still doesn't have
this important file, crtbegin.o. It seems that I can't install ghostview with
fink unless I get this file!

Yeah, it turns out that the weirdo who packaged Xcode-1.2 put everything from /usr/lib/gcc/darwin/3.1 into the gcc3.1.pkg *except* crtbegin.o, which is in DevSDK.pkg. In Xcode-1.5, it is in gcc3.1.pkg.

So, reinstall DevSDK.pkg.
