hi all,
have another newbie question for all of you.
one of the primary reasons i got fink was to get xemacs, because i like it as an editor/compiler so much, especially for java.
so i load xemacs via fink 0.7.2 (using fink commander 0.5.3), and i can edit java just fine, but when it comes to compile, i get the system alert beep, saying it doesn't know where the jar libraries are for the jdk, and i need to set that in jde-get-jdk-dir. i read up on the xemacs faq for jde and find that this means i have to use the 'meta-' key in the combination of 'M-x' (the 'M' being the 'meta-' key) to invoke the configuration changes i need.
herein lies the rub.
xemacs does not understand *any* key on my apple mac 17" powerbook g4 1.33 ghz as being the 'meta' key. not option-alt, not the apple command key. nuttin'.
so -- any suggestions on how i map it so xemacs thinks something like option-alt is the "meta" key when pressed? right now when i try that, i just get the system alert when pressing, say, option-x saying it doesn't understand U2228 (the unicode for that font with the letter 'x,' i suppose). anyone else run into this with xemacs under x11? please advise at your convenience. thanx!
