Hi all,

i'm a fink newbie and have a question about it.
I have only a slow modem connection and using fink to
install XEmacs would be no fun at all.

The question now:
Is it possible to download the packages first and then tell
fink to use the already downloaded packages?
(I can use the fast link in a different location but they
wouldn't allow me to connect the Mac there...)

I tried to find something in the documentation but failed
miserably.

Many thanks for the help,
Marc

Do you want to use binary packages or build from source? You can download items to a PC and transfer them, in either case, but what you download and where you put it is different:

1) BInary: You can download the files from

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/fink/direct_download/dists/10.3/ release/main/binary-darwin-powerpc

Navigate to the various sections to get the package files, and if you want any crypto packages, go to

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/fink/direct_download/dists/10.3/ release/crypto/binary-darwin-powerpc

Copy the files to a disk or disks (e.g. a CD). Then you can put the disk in your Mac, and copy the files from the CD:

sudo cp <filename on cd> /sw/var/cache/apt/archives

Once the .deb files are in that directory, you should be able to use the binary installation tools.

2) Source. In this case you'll have to download the source tarballs for every package that you want to install, copy them to a disk, and then copy them to your Mac:

sudo cp <filename on cd> /sw/src
