I have been working at installing control-center using Alexander's suggestion below. This has not been straightforward because the many dependencies failed to compile: I have had to install perhaps a dozen additional packages by hand (many of these were libs packages). However, in the end control-center-1.4.0.5-16 fails to compile because it can't find a GTK installation:

The failure comes upon when the gtk-config script tries to find a gtk installation. But, GTK is definitely installed: I have both gtk+ 1.2.10-27 and gtk+2 2.2.4-2 for good measure.

Check the config.log file as it says, e.g.

/sw/src/control-center-1.4.0.5-16/control-center-1.4.0.5/config.log

I've seen similar errors for GLIB which were caused by a version of glib that was installed outside the Fink tree.

At the suggestion of one of Alexander's earlier posts (2003-01-24) following up a report of a similar error, I tried to rebuild gtk+, which fails with the following error message:

Try running "fink cleanup" to fix this.

I have tried this with both the re-install and the rebuild commands with the same result.

Might there be a configure file somewhere which needs to have a path-variable changed? Or is there a directory that needs moved? (c.f. http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/ msg12083.html)

I show that control-center for 1.4 is still available. You should be able to install it from source via

fink install control-center-1.4.0.5-16.
