Letting fink install its things itself is pretty much the *only*
course of action in this case. By design, fink only deals with things
that are part of the OS X system or are part of fink itself. Even
doing a manual install or using a different package manager to place
files in /sw won't suffice. That way we are 100% in control of what
compile-time options were used, what features are enabled, where files
are installed, etc.
